The Crabtree Stationary Steam Engine

This was built between the years 1912-1915 and is one of only three ever made. It is a single cylinder Crabtree engine built in Wellington. The engine was used to drive the machinery at a sawmill, cheaply, and could produce up to 25,000 board feet of native timber in its heyday. At one time it provided work for 100 men and required four boilers to drive it at maximum production rate.
